JPCS celebrates 20th anniversary

13/05/2013 | HIGHWAYS REPORTERS

JPCS is celebrating 20 years in the industry by completing its 10,000th mile of highways work.

The highways maintenance and civil engineering contractor was established in 1993 and since then has carried out maintenance on 10,000 miles of roads and footways, surfaced the pavements outside a million homes, installed 5,000 road signs and removed more than 10,000 tonnes of undergrowth.

During the past two decades JPCS has grown from a small pavement crew into a national business with a £10million turnover. Its clients include Balfour Beatty, the Highways Agency, British Gas, Carillion, Eurovia and local authorities across the UK.

Peter Shone (pictured), managing director of JPCS, said: “The business has come a long way in the past 20 years and as the highways industry has developed so have we. There has been a huge amount of change in the industry since 1993, for example in client and end user expectations, programming, methods and approaches used by contractors. Who would have imagined 20 years ago that we would be recycling footways instead of building ones?”

JPCS was one of the first highway maintenance and civil engineering companies in the UK to gain Investors in People status and through its years of experience and expertise the business has developed a number of innovative products for the highways industry, including Rejuvopatch - a carriageway patching and surface treatment product.

Shone added: “Our business achievements over the past 20 years have been impressive. I’m really proud of our growth, diversification, innovation, robust safety record, and investment in people, for example the fact that we’ve trained more than 250 unskilled operatives. I’m excited to see what the next 20 years has in store for JPCS as we continue to grow and develop into new sectors. We’ve set some ambitious targets and our forecasts for growth include a 14% average year-on-year revenue increase for the next five years."

JPCS’s highways team works with local authorities and term maintenance contractors across the UK providing services such as sign installation, traffic management and surfacing.
