Morgan Sindall has won a £2.5m contract to refurbish two ageing bridges on Blackhorse Lane in Croydon.
The contract will be let under Transport for London’s (TfL) civils project framework, which supports a planned £4bn roads modernisation programme in the capital to improve tunnels, bridges and other structures.
The bridge work involves deck replacement on both Blackhorse Lane and Addiscombe Park bridges, while the plans also include extensive utilities diversions and provision for road widening to accommodate a new cycle path on the Addiscombe Park bridge.
Morgan Sindall, supported by design partners Pell Frischmann, will commence the design phase in early February 2018, with works planned to start on site from May 2018.
One of the Blackhorse Lane bridges is owned by TfL itself, while the other belongs to the London Borough of Croydon.

Working closely with the London Borough of Croydon has meant that we can replace both Blackhorse Lane and Addiscombe Park bridges as a joint project, helping us construct them both quicker and more cheaply. We look forward to both bridges being open to the public in January 2019.’
