The Welsh government has announced its preferred replacement option for the A494 River Dee Bridge.
Option E was found to be the most affordable, environmentally friendly and most practical to deliver during public consultation.
The Welsh Governent has said the work is vital because the risk of required closures to the bridge due to major repairs was growing ‘year-on-year’.
The cabinet secretary for transport and North Wales Ken Skates said: ‘I’m pleased today to be able to announce the preferred option, which is the most cost-effective and has the least environmental impact. The plans can now move ahead to the next stage with a view to publish the draft orders later this year.'
The draft orders and Environmental Statement are scheduled for the Autumn with public exhibitions and a consultation to inform the developing design.
The Welsh government said up to 3km of ‘new and improved active travel paths’ would also be built.
Construction is expected to begin in late 2026 to early 2027.
