Southampton based R&W Civil Engineering has completed the purchase of Langley Civil Engineering for an undisclosed sum.

The latest addition to the R&W family will be rebranded R&W Langley in keeping with other R&W companies.

Operating since 1993 and with an annual turnover of around £4 million, Langley Civil Engineering is a regional civil engineering and ground works contractor which undertakes similar types of work to R&W Civil Engineering. With a highly skilled workforce of around 50, Langley works with a number of customers including local authorities; the Ministry of Defence; private companies; and utility companies. They also carry out sub-contract works for a number of well-known and highly respected main contractors including Hanson; Skanska; and Trant. R&W has a turnover exceeding £30m, employs over 250 specialist and highly trained staff and provides civil engineering, traffic management and environmental solutions. The business has helped to deliver many of the key road infrastructure projects in the South of England over the past 34 years.

R&W Langley will tender for civil engineering works up to a value of approximately £2m.

“Langley Civil Engineering is a well-respected civil engineering contractor with a client base that is different to that of R&W. This merger opens up many new opportunities for both companies,” commented Andy Theobald, R&W managing director. “The management, operational styles and values of both businesses fit together perfectly and we hope to combine the good things from both companies, for the benefit of the growing R&W family as a whole. With R&W’s financial clout, and help from a larger team, R&W Langley will have lots of opportunity and support to grow and take on larger and more complicated work for both existing and new customers.”

Both comapnies are currently working alongside each other on the A338 Bournemouth Spur road contract for Hanson. Langley was awarded the drainage work, whilst R&W is carrying out the earthworks and safety fencing. R&W is also assisting Langley with a new contract they recently won in Oxfordshire, valued at £1.3m, on a labour and plant basis, carrying out the earthworks, drainage, reinforced concrete works and kerbing on a new slip road scheme on the A34 at Chilton, for main contractor Galliford Try.
