Road worker killed on A24

A traffic management worker was killed on the A24 in Ashington earlier this week after being struck by a car.

Police confirmed that the Henfield man died at the scene of the accident which took place on the southbound carriageway on Monday (12 August).

Emergency services were called to the scene half a mile north of the Ashington roundabout at around 2.30pm.

Speaking to the West Sussex County Times, a spokesperson for Sussex Police said: “A 49-year-old man was struck by a passing car and sadly died at the scene from his injuries.

“The man, from Henfield, was working as a traffic management worker, subcontracted to West Sussex Highways, at the time of the collision and was working in the road.

“The 58-year-old male driver of the car, a silver Peugeot, was shocked but unhurt.”
