A lorry hit the central reservation of the M11 causing 100 metres of damage this week.
Police were called to the scene half a mile south of junction 10 at Duxford at 2.40am Tuesday on the southbound carriageway.
The fast lanes in both directions were closed. They were re-opened just before 11am.
A police spokesman said the lorry may have hit an animal.
A spokesman from the Highways Agency said: “The vehicle came in contact with the central reservation barrier. It damaged around 100 metres of safety barrier.
“The vehicle was recovered by 5.25am.”
He said the lane closures were in place so repairs could be carried out to the damaged barrier.
