Road user across the UK are being asked to nominate the traffic intersection they hate in the first ever Britain’s Worst Junction contest.
Car leasing experts CentralContracts.com have launched the competition in a bid to find the most despised road junction in the country.
Early nominations have included the ‘magic roundabout’ in Swindon (pictured).
City junctions are also featuring in the contest with one driver nominating the corner of Beck Street and Huntingdon Street in the centre of Nottingham as an accident blackspot.
Stephen Harrison, who works in an office over- looking the junction, said: “There’s no right turn at the junction but it is badly signed so drivers do turn right there every day.
“I’ve seen them narrowly miss pedestrians who are crossing on green and there is a shunt about twice each week. It’s only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured.”
Also amongst the early nominations is the Catthorpe Interchange.
Driver David Shaw said: “The very name Catthorpe Interchange has become synonymous with traffic problems, congestion, roadworks and delays.
“It handles huge amounts of traffic, something like 100,000 vehicles each day, yet it’s poorly planned and has a truly abysmal safety record. If anything deserves the title of Britain’s worst junction it has to be Catthorpe.”
A spokesman for CentralContracts.com said: “This is a fun contest but we are also making a serious point. There are loads of junctions out there which are well known to drivers for being badly planned and poorly signed.
“By naming and shaming the very worst in the country we are hoping the authorities will wake up to the message from the drivers who use these junctions every day and who know them best.”
