A number of local civil engineering students have registered to attend this year’s Highways SIB (Seeing is Believing) event.
This year is the first time that the event has featured a dedicated Apprenticeship/skills zone offering local students the chance to come along and find out about all the exciting opportunities that the sector has to offer.
The zone is formed of the Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE) and the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT).
The IHE will highlight its National Highway Engineering Academy (NHEA) – a virtual academy that will focus on providing engineers and technicians with the skill set and expertise that is vitally needed by the highways industry.
The CIHT will use the event as an opportunity to highlight its apprentice membership grade.Highways Magazine
editor Alec Peachey said: “With record investment in the highways sector getting the right training and people in place will be key to ensuring that the upturn in work is carried out in a safe and timely fashion. So far we’ve got 50 students from Liverpool John Moores University registered to attend the event and we’ve also got interest from Wolverhampton, Loughborough and Manchester Metropolitan universities. As well as finding out about the opportunities available in the industry they’ll also be able to see the latest developments and products which can help improve the safety of the highway network.”
The Apprenticeship/skills zone has been kindly sponsored by The Adjuvo Group which consists of previously separate companies: Highway Safety Solutions, Virtual 3D Solutions and Highway Labour Solutions.
The Adjuvo Group provide support services to contractors operating predominately within the highways and construction sectors.
At Highways SIB the group will showcase each of their services with particular emphasis on the Traffic Management Apprenticeship Scheme – the first scheme of its kind in the UK for the traffic management industry – training services and visualisations of company safe systems of work through 3D animations.
