A Chinese province is planning a motorway that will allow electric vehicles to be recharged while in motion and tolls to be paid without stopping.
The Times reports that Zhejiang, in the east of the country, has won approval to construct the 100-mile motorway between its capital of Hangzhou and the seaside port city of Ningbo.
It says the authorities are hoping that they will be able to increase the average motorway speed by up to a third. The maximum speed allowed on China’s motorways is 120 km/h (75 mph).
The Times adds that in less than five years, China has become the world’s largest car market and Beijing is hoping to lead the industry in electric and hybrid cars and driverless vehicles.
