20 junctions in Swansea are being upgraded with new equipment and wifi to help better manage congestion through the city.
Walesonline.co.uk reports that the junctions will communicate with each other and the control room in a bid to make traffic management more efficient. It’s thanks to £360,000 of Welsh Government transport funding.
Mark Thomas, cabinet member for environment services, told the website, “We have identified key junctions throughout Swansea that help to move high volumes of traffic into and out of the city centre.
“All of the junctions identified will be fitted with modern Wi-Fi communication that will make sure they are all working together and operating as efficiently as possible.
“Some of the junctions are also quite old in terms of the equipment so we are taking the opportunity to upgrade the traffic light controls as well and ensure we have modern reliable equipment in place.”
