Transport for Wales (TfW) has hailed a 'positive' set of results in its 2024/2025 annual report, with significant increases in public transport use.
The TfW year at a glance:
- 31.7 million train journeys made - up a fifth from last year
- 17.8% increase in rail revenue to £174.8m
- 77.1% of journeys made on new trains as of 24 May 2025
- 1.2 million journeys on TrawsCymru bus contracts that TfW run - 11.4% increase on last year
- £47m of Active Travel funding distributed.
Chief executive, James Price said: 'Over the last five years, we’ve developed and announced a lot of plans to improve transport for the people of Wales and the borders. While there is still much to do, the last year has seen the positive impacts of these plans and changes as they are fulfilled across the TfW Network.'
The £47m for active travel schemes signified an increase in active travel funding of £1m from the previous financial year.
Despite revenue grant levels for buses remaining the same, passenger journeys on TrawsCymru buses increased by 11.4% over the past financial year.
