Herefordshire Council has started pre-tendering for its £20m annual highways maintenance work programme.
The council aims to let the deal for 10-years, with options to extend the arrangement to 20-years, leading to an estimated contract value of £400m.
Presently Amey handles maintenance of the councils 3,250km of highways network and 3,300km of public rights of way throughout the county.
Council procurement chiefs are also looking at bundling all its public realm works into the framework, covering car parks, parks and fleet management, which could raise the value by another £100m.
Cllr John Jarvis, leader of Herefordshire Council, said: “We would like to thank Amey for its continued commitment to service delivery.
“This has been a productive relationship for the county which has over recent years seen substantial investment in maintaining and improving the county’s infrastructure.
“After ten years, it’s now the right time to re-procure these arrangements and our root and branch review programme will ensure we put in place arrangements for the future that will deliver the best possible services and value for money to the people of Herefordshire.’
The council hopes to start up the new arrangement by August next year and has given firms until 23 November to submit PQQs.
Interested firm must register at the council procurement portal.
