A20 resurfacing starts this week

Work starts this week to improve the road surface of the A20 near Dover in Kent.

The coastbound carriageway from the Cauldham Lane bridge in Capel Le Ferne to the Aycliffe subway will be resurfaced, and road markings and road studs will be replaced.

Sections of the A20 will be closed, overnight, on weekday nights only, until the morning of Thursday 31 May for the work to be carried out.

Anita Waterton, Highways Agency Project Sponsor said: "This work will improve the road surface to provide smoother, safer journeys for road users. It has been carefully planned to minimise disruption and so is taking place overnight, when traffic flows are lowest.

"We do need to close sections of the road while the work is carried out and would advise road users affected by the diversions to leave extra time for their journeys."

The work will take place overnight between 8pm and 6am and it will be carried out in two separate phases.

The coastbound A20 will be closed from Courtwood Interchange to York Street Roundabout for four nights. Road users will be directed to follow a fully signed diversion route via the B2011 and York Street.

The coastbound A20 will be closed from the A260 Hawkinge junction (immediately to the east of the Roundhill Tunnel) to the Courtwood Interchange for two nights. Road users will be directed to follow a fully signed diversion route via the southbound A260 and B2011.

Appropriate signage will advise road users which closure and diversion is in place.
