Armagh roads to be improved

Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has announced a £950,000 investment in the roads network in Armagh, Northern Ireland.

Resurfacing schemes will take place on Keady Road, Newtownhamilton; Summerisland Road, Ardress and Derrynoose Road, Keady in the coming months. Work is also due to be completed on the Armagh Road, Charlemont by the end of September.

Kennedy (pictured) said: "This is a significant investment of almost £1million which will help improve the structural condition of over five miles of a number of main roads which connect urban communities.

“I would ask the public for their patience during these works as delays can be expected and should be planned for.”

Work will start on the Keady Road Newtownhamilton near Carrickatuke on 23 September and is expected to be completed on 6 October. On the Summerisland and Ardress roads, work is planned to start on 7 October and be completed by 10 November.

The start date for the work on the Derrynoose Road, Keady will be dependent on progress at the Monaghan Road improvement scheme and resurfacing works at Madden and Lislynn which is scheduled for completion on the 28 October.

In other news, a replacement street lighting programme has been given the go ahead at Queens Road, Lisburn.

The £75,000 scheme between Seymour Street and Sloan Street is due to commence on 1 October and will be fully operational within eight weeks.

Kennedy said: “This investment will provide a lighting scheme that complies with current British Standards, improve the structural and electrical stability of the street lighting network, reduce energy costs, improve the quality of lighting, reduce sky glow/light pollution and carbon emissions.”
