DRD delivers £7m on road improvements in Northern Ireland

Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has praised staff and contractors for the successful completion of road schemes in 2013/14 which accounted for a £7 million investment in the roads infrastructure in the Craigavon area in Northern Ireland.

Speaking ahead of last night’s (15 September) meeting between the Department for Regional Development and Craigavon Borough Council, Kennedy (pictured) said: "My Department invested over £130m in structural maintenance, improving many miles of the road infrastructure across Northern Ireland in the last financial year.

“In particular in the Craigavon Borough despite ever increasing demands on budgets, DRD invested over £7m maintenance works.

“DRD is using its available resources highly effectively and continues to deliver quality public services in Craigavon Borough Council and across Northern Ireland.”

Previewing the work scheduled in the area during the current year, Kennedy added: “DRD’s proposed programme for this financial year will see road resurfacing on Union Street/Tandragee Road, Lurgan; North Street, Lurgan and Upper Ramone Park, Portadown. In addition, my Department also carries out an annual programme of resurfacing works which is implemented on a scheme priority basis; subject to the availability of the necessary financial resource.”
