Dorset’s roads receive £2m funding boost

More than £2 million will be spent in an effort to bring Dorset’s roads up to scratch.

Dorset County Council has received funding from the Government and the cash will be added to the authority’s road maintenance budget for the next two years.

The money will be used to fix road defects, improve drainage and strengthen bridges and structures.

The county’s roads were left in a poor state following a harsh winter which followed one of the wettest summers on record.

Speaking to the Dorset Echo, Andrew Martin, head of operations for Dorset Highways, said: "This additional funding is excellent news and will offer us a real opportunity to repair, in a programmed manner, the damage inflicted on the highway network through the last 12 months. We have at our disposal the latest processes, such as velocity and infra red patching techniques, which offer us a more cost-effective method of repair and will ensure the available budget is spent wisely.

"We now have a number of teams working around the county and we are confident that, within a short period of time, the travelling public will see a marked reduction in pothole numbers and an improvement in carriageway conditions overall."
