Econ Engineering has secured 'a coup' in signing Donald “Donny” Kerr to become service manager at the company’s new flagship Alloa engineering and service hub.
Mr Kerr (pictured below on the right, with Jonathan Lupton) previously spent many years working for AEBI Schmidt and will now take charge of Econ Scotland’s After Sales division, which includes contracts, technical support, managing the onsite team of engineers, and introducing and implementing new procedures.
One of the most respected names in Scotland’s winter maintenance equipment industry, Mr Kerr will help Econ to continue to increase its market share north of the border through the purpose-built facility.
The Alloa hub is open to service and repair winter maintenance and road repair vehicles for Scotland’s 32 local authorities and private sector highways contractors.
Econ Engineering, which last year celebrated its 50th anniversary, supplies 85% of the winter maintenance vehicles used on the UK’s roads.
In addition to its headquarters and manufacturing centre in the North Yorkshire city of Ripon, it has now added another service and engineering hub in Cardiff.
Econ Engineering managing director Jonathan Lupton said: 'Without a shadow of a doubt, Donny is one of the best-known and most respected figures in our industry, and we are absolutely delighted that he has joined Econ Scotland.
'I’ve personally known Donny for many years and I’m looking forward to working with him as we aim to build up our Scottish division.
'The Econ Scotland team will learn a great deal from Donny. His knowledge is second to none, and what he doesn’t know about the niche business we operate in isn’t worth knowing.'
Mr Kerr said: 'Having worked for my previous employer for many years, this has been a momentous decision for me to make.
'I know Jonathan and his brother, Andrew, extremely well, and I’ve been an admirer of Econ for many years. The company has a superb reputation, is an industry leader, and I’m now looking forward to making my mark with the company here, in Alloa.'
