Flood probe on A595

An investigation into major flooding on the A595 around Bigrigg south of Whitehaven in Cumbria will start next week.

A half mile section of the route has been hit by flooding and work will include cleaning and surveying the drainage system.

The survey will help Highways Agency contractors design an improvement scheme involving renewing or repairing the drainage system.

Highways Agency project sponsor Jonathan Reade said: “This is important work to identify the cause of occasional flooding along this section of the A595 and help us come up with a solution.

“We have timed the work to take place during an off-peak period during the day when traffic levels are low. We will be doing our best to ensure any inconvenience to drivers and residents is kept to a minimum.”

In the North West, day-to-day running and maintenance of the motorway network and other strategic roads is managed by EnterpriseMouchel in Area 13 and Balfour Beatty Mott MacDonald in Area 10.
