Gloucestershire County Council will lay more than 100km of new road surface in the next few months at a cost of £2.2 million.

There are 32 surface dressing schemes which will be taking place across the county throughout the summer.

The first phase of 17 schemes started last month and will continue throughout July.

The second phase, which includes the remaining 15 schemes, will be scheduled for later this summer.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways, said: "I appreciate this work will cause some disruption but it'll be worth it when we've finished.

"Surface dressing is an extremely important part of our annual programme of road maintenance and it will make a big difference to all road users.

"It'll help our roads last longer and make them safer to drive on and that's not possible without the minimal disruption this work will cause.”
