Hart opens improved junction on the M4

17/09/2014 | HIGHWAYS REPORTERS

Welsh Transport Minister Edwina Hart has officially opened a new lane that links the M4 at Cardiff with the A470 heading north.

The M4 junction 32 westbound to A470 northbound dedicated lane will improve traffic flow and safety at the Coryton interchange.

The new dedicated lane, together with technology to control traffic flow, will reduce congestion on this busy part of Coryton roundabout. Current traffic flows show 60% of traffic at this junction head to the A470 and the new set-up will reduce traffic on the roundabout by 20%.

Hart also visited the site of the new dedicated lane that is being constructed at M4 junction 33. This dedicated lane will provide a link for the M4 westbound to A4232 southbound traffic. The dedicated lane is due to open in the spring of 2015. When constructed this will improve traffic flows on this busy intersection, which is an important link to Cardiff Airport and Enterprise Zone.

Hart said: “This is a very busy part of the road network in Cardiff which provides important economic links for south east Wales. The new lanes will greatly ease congestion at these two busy intersections, improving journey times and safety. The Welsh Government is investing in the road network throughout Wales to improve access to jobs and services and strengthen our economy.”
