Lincolnshire road with ‘500’ pothole repairs

Lincolnshire County Council has agreed to resurface a road that has been compared to a patchwork.

Residents in Conway Drive, North Hykeham, claim the street has about 500 pothole repairs.

A petition was signed by residents calling for the road to be resurfaced, but the council agreed to the work before it was submitted.

Councillor Richard Davies, the council's portfolio holder for highways and transport, told the BBC: "The road does suffer because agricultural vehicles use it and it takes a real hammering. What's been done is only a temporary measure and next year we are going to resurface the whole road."

The damaged road and pavements make it difficult for the residents, many who are elderly, to get around.

Ian Clarkson, who has lived on Conway Drive for three years, said: "One lady, who has got an electric wheelchair, is stopping in now because she says it's too dangerous on the road. It's 35 years old and it's never had any maintenance on it and it's just had it.

"Once a month we have to have the pothole gang down to fill holes. We must have had them down 12 or 15 times in the last year. They come and do 30 or 40, then three or four weeks later we ring and tell them there's another 20. It looks like a patchwork."

Davies said a series of severe winters had led to potholes being more of a problem over the last few years.

He added: "This year we've filled an additional 50,000 potholes. We are getting on top of it and I'm pleased we are."
