New president for IHE

Tony Kirby is the new president of the Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE).

Kirby takes over from John Nightingale and was officially handed the reigns at a Presidential Luncheon at Beverley Racecourse in Yorkshire yesterday (21 June). His presidency will run for two years.

He is an Incorporated Engineer with over 28 years highways experience within both the public and private sectors, and has been a Fellow of the Institute since 1998. He mentors younger members of the profession and runs training courses to promote professional development and help address the industry skills shortage.

In addition to his role at IHE Kirby is a director of Local Transport Projects, a traffic/highway engineering and transport planning practice based in Beverley. He has represented the industry on numerous national steering groups and has project managed award winning urban traffic engineering projects. Kirby has an MSc in European Traffic & Transportation and has studied road safety, cycling and public realm initiatives throughout Europe.
