Temporary and Permanent Concrete Vehicle Restraint Systems

Hardstaff Barriers, a division of Hill and Smith Infrastructure Ltd, alongside 3 other VRS leading companies, Asset VRS, Hill&Smith Barriers and Varley&Gulliver is a supplier of both temporary and permanent road safety barriers, barrier mounted secure perimeter fence, security barriers and fencing. Since 1993 the company has operated in a diverse range of markets including highways, security, general construction, and airports.

Hardstaff Barriers provides high-quality, tested vehicle restraint systems (VRS), designed to keep road workers and road users safe and is a market leader within the Highways industry for the provision of THVCB and TVCB safety barriers, Multibloc, Maxibloc, for use on major highway construction projects. The company is also the exclusive UK partner of REBLOC and offers their full range of vehicle restraint systems.

With a strong focus on innovation and sustainability, the company is committed to supporting the National Highway’s 2050 Net Zero Vision, recently demonstrated  with the launch of the REBLOC H1 Barrier. Through value engineering, the precast H2 containment Rigid Concrete Barrier (RCB), RB 80XA has been transformed and a new H1 RCB product, which removes material cost and mitigates carbon impact, has been successfully crash tested to the required performance level of H1 containment. It requires 50 % less steel and 20 % less concrete per unit compared to the original H2 Rebloc RB 80 XA. An installation of 1000m of the new H1 barrier realises a 5250 kg reduction in steel and requires 40 m3 less concrete. It also uses a low carbon concrete that reduces carbon content, decreasing the CO² emissions associated with standard CEM1 concrete by 33%.

Hardstaff Barriers prides itself on offering outstanding support and provides nationwide service incorporating the sale and/or rental of barrier units, in addition to a complete transportation and installation & maintenance service. The company employs a highly skilled workforce who utilises the latest equipment including the latest safety technologies available.

As well as providing barriers for planned long term programmes for major road schemes for National Highways, Hardstaff are also are committed to reacting to support UK road network functionality and in turn safety of road users and road workers in times of need. It has the ability to respond fast and can deliver barriers & accessories via their fleet of HGV’s for emergency call outs at short notice. Its road safety barrier experts deliver free online workshops outlining the essential information contained within the latest Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) ‘CD 377 Requirements for road restraint systems’ document. Whatever the objectives of their customers, their technical team are here to assist with extensive knowledge and expertise. Their dedicated team can come to your site to advise and design various barrier protection options.
