Lanes Group Plc

Lanes Group plc is the UK’s largest independent drainage and wastewater specialist. The company delivers a comprehensive range of surveying, cleaning, repair and rehabilitation services for Tier 1 contractors, National Highways, Transport Scotland, and Traffic Wales trunk road agents.

Highways division

These services are managed by a dedicated Highways Division. Its business and technical managers ensure services are delivered safety, to a high standard, for single projects and the largest highways programmes.

They work with delivery teams in a national network of 20 depots, from Aberdeen to Plymouth. All Lanes drainage engineers are trained and qualified. Many hold the National Highways Passport with common induction. Project teams are competent in HADDMS, operate the most capable specialist vehicles and equipment, and can be flexibly mobilised for local, regional and national schemes.

Extensive experience

Lanes delivers drainage services for the UK’s highest profile highway development programmes, including motorway upgrade schemes on the M1, M4, M6, M8, M25 and M62, plus trunk road schemes, such as the A66 Northern Trans-Pennine upgrade.

Specialist vehicles

The company has the UK’s largest fleet of recycler jet vac tankers. These filter and reuse their water, improving productivity by over 60% so they can stay within traffic management working for longer with a lower carbon footprint.

Lanes also operates a large, modern tanker fleet, plus super-sucker wet/dry vacuumation tankers and high pressure jet vac tankers for tackling tasks such as deep chamber emptying and concrete removal, more safely and more sustainably.

NH SRN HADDMS surveying service

The company provides a full suite of surveying and inspection services, including CCTV, GPS, full HADDMS and asset conditions surveys. These services are supported by a dedicated national highways surveying centre, with data transferred directly from site via the cloud to accelerate data processing and improve sustainability. Lanes uses innovation techniques such as the highly portable CleverScan inspection system. This allows digital scanning of chambers up to 10 metres deep without confined space entry, setting exemplar standards for safety and doubling inspection productivity.

CIPP lining

The company also has a sewer and culvert rehabilitation division that carries out the most challenging CIPP lining projects. In 2022, Lanes installed the largest ultraviolet liner (1800mm diameter) in the UK beneath a road in Corby.

Lanes was also one of the first specialists to install long-length continuous UV liners – lining drains on the M6 J16-19 SMP, strengthening assets under the new Lane 1 for the all lane running motorway network.
