European companies win major Australian contracts

23/06/2017 |

One of Australia's largest tollways, EastLink in Melbourne, has successfully switched over to a new state-of-the-art tolling back office system and customer website, provided by Spanish company SICE, while French company Egis is to deliver incident response and maintenance for Transurban Queensland's tunnel network.

EastLink's new tolling back office system is a tailored version of SICE's Billing and Invoicing System (BIS).

Since going live, the new system has been successfully processing the tolls and payments for the 250,000 vehicle trips and 1.2 million fully electronic toll point transactions made on EastLink each day.

The change-over to the new SICE system was completed over just one weekend. This was a remarkable achievement, including the migration of historical data for 560,000 customer accounts, 2.8 million casual user accounts, 3.4 million Australian DSRC tolling tags, 18 million Australian vehicles and 32 million trips.

EastLink's new SICE system provides the functionality of the previous system, including Australia-wide interoperability of tolling tags and tollways. The new SICE system adds numerous functional improvements specified by EastLink to assist customer service officers and customers. The new SICE system is also more efficient and operates with more real-time functionality compared to the previous system.

Meanwhile Tunnel Network Services Pty Ltd (TNS), a 100% Egis subsidiary, has been selected by Transurban Queensland, operator of the go via network, to deliver incident response and routine maintenance services for its tunnel network in Brisbane.

Egis will provide these service to a network with a total length of around 24 km, including 15.5 km of tunnels. The network comprises Legacy Way, Go Between Bridge, AirportlinkM7, Inner City Bypass and Clem7. The services will commence progressively on the assets between 2017 and 2019.

TNS will deliver integrated services in line with Transurban Queensland's network approach to operations and maintenance. Network-wide operations and maintenance will drive enhanced outcomes, achieve synergies and deliver high quality services to the tunnel network users through faster response times and a clear focus on safe lane availability.

This success fuels the positive trend of Egis in Australia, following the commencement of operations and maintenance of Legacy Way, the incident response services on the M2 / Lane Cove Tunnel in Sydney (both in 2015) and the pre-operations phase of WestConnex, Australia's largest road infrastructure project, in 2016.
