Doncaster joins Midlands Highway Alliance

Doncaster Council has become the 14th local authority to join the The Midlands Highway Alliance procurement group.

Doncaster is using the alliance's (MSF1) contract for delivering the first phase of its £27.8m southern gateway improvement scheme, ‘White Rose Way’.

MSF1 contractor, Balfour Beatty Birse, has been selected to deliver the scheme, saving Doncaster an estimated £100,000 in procurement costs, and ensuring the project can be delivered to a very tight timescale.

Peter Davies, Mayor of Doncaster, said: “The White Rose Way scheme is vital to the future development aspirations of Doncaster.

“Improving White Rose Way and the new airport link road will create the right conditions for attracting new investment and economic growth, bringing more jobs and prosperity to Doncaster.

“We are incredibly excited to be taking advantage of the benefits the MHA can offer. Using the well-established, successful MSF1 framework will allow the project to progress more smoothly and enable us to take full advantage of the benefits of Early Contractor Involvement”.

Matthew Lugg, Chair of the MHA said “The MHA continues to be a success story attracting new local authority members who are keen to generate efficiency savings across the public sector.

“After around four years of operation, 53 schemes with a total value of around £130 million have been delivered through our medium schemes frameworks.

“We anticipate that our members will benefit from around £15 million of efficiency savings up to 2014. I believe that Doncaster’s decision to be a part of this successful collaboration will have mutually positive benefits.”
