FLI help to install fuel price signs on M5

FLI Structures installed the structures and foundations for four real time fuel price signs on the M5.

Signs showing the price of fuel along the M5 between Bristol and Exeter went live in March as part of a Highways England trial. This section of the M5 is an Area 2 asset support contract that is managed by Skanska.

The project brief required an innovative approach to the design work and a short lead time for installations, FLI were asked to deliver reduced whole life costs, less risk to road workers and a lower environmental impact, compared to a traditional solution.

FLI was contracted to develop the screw pile foundations and sign supports columns in accordance with Eurocodes and obtain AIP’s, departures and approval, for four site specific locations between Bristol and Exeter on the M5.

The trial, launched at the end of March, will provide fuel price information from Gordano, Sedgemoor, Bridgwater, Taunton Deane and Exeter motorway service areas, and will run until the end of 2017.
