Highways alliance adds new members

The Midlands Highway Alliance has received another boost to its membership with the recent addition of Wolverhampton City Council.

The news comes only weeks after Stoke City Council signed up, bumping the membership up to a total of 17, comprising 16 local authorities plus the Highways Agency.

The MHA now covers an area that stretches from the Home Counties to South Yorkshire and from the West Midlands over to the East of England.

Matthew Lugg, Chair of the MHA said, “The MHA has established procurement contracts in place for new construction schemes, commodity acquisition and professional services, which are a huge advantage to both authorities and contractors, by saving thousands of pounds and speeding up enablement.

“In these times of austerity, local authorities are being forced to challenge their traditional methods of working and are leaning towards ways of generating efficiency savings. The framework contracts the MHA offers absolutely tick these boxes.

“The MHA is a shining example of how the public sector can reduce costs of procurement and construction and this has been recognised by Infrastructure UK and the DfT's Highway Maintenance Efficiency Programme."
