Yotta has added new features focused on sustainability and carbon offsetting to its cloud-based highway asset management software, Horizons.
The new features allow users to measure the embodied carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions across numerous treatment options.
Jonathan Shaw, product manager at Yotta, said: 'With Horizons, we not only have the ability to track and measure emissions, but to actually do something with this data – to use it to analyse, predict and plan for the future.
'This is transformational for everybody using the roads – not just highways asset managers or local authorities – as the whole planet will ultimately benefit from more sustainable infrastructure.'
Yotta said the tool could help councils 'create optimal lifecycle plans that meet targets, deliver greener alternatives and offer more efficient investment scenarios'.
Many local authorities across the country have declared climate emergencies and set targets to achieve net zero.
National Highways has also committed to achieving net zero for its operations by 2030, across maintenance and construction by 2040 and for travel on its roads by 2050.
The national roads operator's P-DST, referred to within the organisation as its Programme Investment Tool (PIT), is powered by Yotta’s technology and numerous local authorities use Horizons as part of their strategic highway asset planning.
Yotta was acquired by construction technology provider Causeway Technologies this summer, from AIM-listed Oxford Metrics.
Nick Smee, CEO of Yotta, commented: 'I am confident that combining two UK-based sector-leading software businesses will be a positive and exciting one for our existing customers, the many new users we hope to add over the coming months and years, and for our continued innovation in asset management solutions.'
