A major package of safety improvements and maintenance will start on the M5 between Bristol and Gloucester next week.
The work will last until May and will take place between junctions 11a and 12 and junctions 13 to 14. It will include bridge repairs, stabilizing embankments and vegetation clearance.
Highways Agency Service Delivery Team Leader, Dave Sledge said: “This is a very full programme of work but with careful planning we have been able to undertake a number of schemes at the same time which will significantly reduce disruption."
Among the improvements, sections of the steel central reservation barriers will be replaced with a concrete barrier.
The programme starts on Monday, January 14, with essential structural repairs to Coaley Cambridge Bridge between junctions 13 and 14 and Wheatridge Bridge between junctions 11a and 12.
Both schemes will require a hard shoulder and lane one closure until Easter when all restrictions will be lifted for the holiday period. A 50 mph speed limit will also be in place to ensure the safety of road users and our workforce.
Further work being undertaken during this time will be drainage repairs and fence replacement.
