Studs and marking work on A64

Two Highways Agency maintenance projects renewing studs and white lining along the A64 in North Yorkshire will get underway next week.

Overnight carriageway closures with temporary traffic lights and drivers being led through roadworks by contractors' vehicles in 10mph convoys will be in place north of York between Flaxton and south of Whitwell-on-the-Hill from Monday 5 March and Friday 16 March.

This £98,000 project is being carried out along a mile long stretch of the single carriageway section of the A64 in both directions between its junction with Scotchman Lane and the start of the dual carriageway section south of Whitwell-on-the-Hill.

The work will only be taking place between 8pm and 6am overnight and is not expected to cause any significant delays.

A second, £47,000, project to carry out similar maintenance - this time at Tadcaster Bar south of York - will get underway on Monday 19 March with overnight working between 8pm and 6am for two nights with the work being completed on Wednesday 21 March.

The work involves the full closure of the eastbound entry slip onto the A64 at Tadcaster Bar. The work, which will not affect the main carriageway, will require a diversion through Tadcaster for road users to join the eastbound A64 at the Tadcaster Ings junction instead.

Highways Agency project sponsor Peter Godfrey said, "Both these projects involve routine maintenance to ensure that users of the A64 can continue to enjoy safe, smooth and reliable journeys.

"Neither of these schemes will cause too much inconvenience to road users but people travelling overnight should leave a little more time to complete journeys."
