Infrastructure bosses called on prime minister in-waiting Liz Truss to ensure the Government 'holds its nerve' and continues existing programmes of investment.
The calls were made after Liz Truss was announced as the winner of the Conservative leadership contest today, taking 57% of valid votes cast against Rishi Sunak's 43%.
Ms Truss, the former foreign secretary, will become the next UK prime minister tomorrow after travelling to meet the Queen at Balmoral in Scotland.
On winning the leadership race, Mr Truss promised to 'take bold action to get all of us through these tough times, grow our economy, and unleash the United Kingdom’s potential'.
Director of operations at the Civil Engineering Contractors Association, Marie-Claude Hemming said: 'We acknowledge that the current fiscal outlook is challenging. Nonetheless we call on the new Government to hold its nerve in the face of the current economic headwinds, and commit to existing programmes of investment, to project jobs, and ensure market confidence.
'The infrastructure sector is looking for clarity, continuity, and consistency from the new Government. We look forward to working with the Prime Minister to ensure her administration can hit the ground running, by unleashing growth and driving productivity gains through the delivery of Great British infrastructure.'
I am honoured to be elected Leader of the Conservative Party.
