Arizona governor tells Uber to stop testing in his state

The Governor of Arizona, Doug Ducey, has written to Uber telling them to stop their testing in the state, after the fatal crash involving one of its vehicles in the city of Tempe last week.

In the letter, posted online, Mr Ducey wrote, “I found the video to be disturbing and alarming, and it raises many questions about the ability of Uber to continue testing in Arizona.”

Uber had voluntarily halted all testing after the collision where its car hit a pedestrian crossing the dark road with a bicycle.  She was on the road away from a crosswalk.

“Improving public safety has always been the emphasis of Arizona’s approach to autonomous vehicle testing, and my expectation is that public safety is also the top priority for all who operate this technology in the state of Arizona,” Ducey also said in the letter. “The incident that took place on March 18 is an unquestionable failure to comply with this expectation.”
