The moovel Group and the Karlsruher Verkehrsverbund (KVV) are bringing a demonstrator on-demand shuttle service to the streets in March.
It’ll be tested as part of a pilot operation during the IT-Trans trade fair, which will take place from 6 to 8 March 2018 in the German tech city of Karlsruhe. On these three days both the trade fair visitors and the citizens of the fan city can use the additional mobility offer free of charge.
With a new on-demand ride-sharing offer during the IT-Trans, moovel and KVV say they are breaking new ground in mobility. The idea behind the pilot project is that passengers order their journey via the “KVV.mobil” app and are then picked up by van at their location and taken to their own personal destination – without a static timetable. The users share the shuttle vehicle with other passengers. An algorithm calculates the fastest route through the city to one of the more than 100 breakpoints that are approached.
On the trade show days, the on-demand ridesharing service will be available to passengers on Tuesday, March 6th and Wednesday, March 7th, from 8am to midnight and on Thursday, March 8th, from 8am to 6pm. During the test phase, there are no costs for the users.
