Our local roads are in a state of emergency. This year's ALARM (Annual Local Authority Road Maintenance) survey showed the repairs backlog has reached more than £14bn - a record level of failure.

What's worse is we are on the edge of potential collapse, with many more roads set to slip into the red. Highways magazine talks to two of TotalEnergies' leading experts Richard Ashton and Gary Schofield about how we rescue this situation and pull ourselves back from the brink.
