Leeds uses Videalert mobile enforcement solution

Leeds City Council has taken delivery of a new CCTV car from Videalert to be used to provide unattended enforcement of a range of offences including parking on city centre bus stops and school keep clears.

The new mobile enforcement vehicle is equipped with a complete suite of Videalert software applications enabling it to be used for a wide range of traffic management applications.  At the end of each shift, recorded data is uploaded to the Videalert Digital Video Platform that is already used to manage the council's extensive network of cameras which, the company says, delivered a 90% reduction in the number of motorists illegally driving in bus lanes in its first year of use.

The Videalert system automates the construction of video evidence packs which are reviewed by trained council operatives prior to sending confirmed offences to the back office processing system for the issuance of PCNs. 

Mark Jefford, Parking Manager at Leeds City Council, says, 'Videalert systems have consistently delivered the highest level of productivity after a successful two-year pilot scheme which resulted in a reduction in offences of more than 74% and faster journey times for public transport users.  The new mobile enforcement vehicle provides us with the flexibility to target key areas where non-compliance by drivers is causing congestion or safety issues.'
