Paula Claytonsmith has been promoted to the role of chief executive of the Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG), with Martin Duffy set to become chair.
Ms Claytonsmith is currently the organisation’s director of government and strategy and will take over from current chief executive Mr Duffy in July.
The move will allow the group to keep Mr Duffy's extensive sector knowledge, while Ms Claytonsmith, who has more of a public sector policy background as well mature industry knowledge, will work full time on maintaining LCRIG's momentum.
Ms Claytonsmith said: 'As a team, we work closely together, and we work for the sector. But to do more, Martin and I are changing our roles, especially as our work to support the industry is expanding. I am absolutely delighted to be assuming the role of chief executive and look forward to working with Martin over the next few months to ensure a smooth transition.
'LCRIG’s growth over the last few years has been unprecedented and this is a fantastic opportunity to continue to work with Martin, the board, our directors and the team at LCRIG as we make the case for local roads. We will continue to support our members and the wider sector as we develop our work and initiatives around the areas of net zero, collaboration, skills and innovation.'
Mr Duffy said: 'I am proud to have been at the helm of LCRIG since 2019. We have come so far in a relatively short space of time and Paula has played a big part in the progress that has been made since she joined the organisation a year ago.
'Her extensive background and knowledge of the private and public sectors make her the ideal person to take LCRIG to the next level. As chair, I will be keeping a watchful eye on progress and continuing to advise as and when necessary. However, I know that with Paula at the helm and a great team alongside her that the future of LCRIG remains a positive one.'
