Tesla's Smart Summon feature questioned by users

The Smart Summon feature allows Tesla owners to use their phones to tell their cars to drive themselves from parking spots to the curb. 

The new wireless feature is part of Tesla's 10.0 software update.

However, according to The Drive the feature has led to some drivers reporting that their Tesla's were getting into accidents. Twitter users have been posting videos of other vehicles backing into theirs after summoning the Tesla car.

Another posted a video of their Model 3 nearly colliding with another vehicle whilst 'summoning' it.

The Drive reports that not all Tesla owners are experiencing issues with the new feature and that when used in ideal and well-lit conditions Smart Summon performs as expected.

Tesla states that the vehicle requires supervision while the feature is in use saying, "Smart Summon is designed to allow your car to drive to you (using your phone’s GPS as a target destination) or a location of your choosing, maneuvering around and stopping for objects as necessary. Like Summon, Smart Summon is only intended for use in private parking lots and driveways."

Tesla also said in its release notes for the update, "You are still responsible for your car and must monitor it and its surroundings at times within your line of sight because it may not detect all obstacles. Be especially careful around quick moving people, bicycles, and cars."
