Time running out to enter Highways Magazine Excellence Awards

The deadline for entering this year's Highways Magazine Excellence Awards is two working weeks away, with entries closing at 5pm on Friday 24th June.

Remember ITS has its own prestigious category, the Best Use of New Technology in the Highways Industry 2016.

Last year the winners were Elgin, Cheshire East Council & Ringway Jacobs for their app which transformed Traffic Management at Cheshire East Council.

 

The award for the Best Use of New Technology will be given to an organisation or local authority which can demonstrate that they have or are making a significant improvement to the highways industry through the implementation of new technology.  This could be new software, innovative equipment or an ITS solution.  The technology should have been deployed or have been on test for at least 12 months prior to entry with clear evidence of its benefits by deployment on one or multiple schemes.

To enter you need to do several things, Outline the objectives of the ITS or software solution, provide details of the challenges overcome while implementing the scheme, explain the benefits of the system to the road user and the community as a whole and detail the main impact of the scheme over the past 12 months and what are the future benefits?

And it's definitely worth entering. There's a feel-good factor for staff involved in the scheme, and in the wider organisation from getting shortlisted. And all shortlisted entries benefit from a lot of free publicity in Highways Magazine and Smart Highways which means that more than 11,000 industry professionals will read about your scheme or product. Nominees also attend the fabulous awards evening which is an entertaining night and a great opportunity to network.
