Colas have launched a new contracting business that is solely dedicated to the Scottish market.
The company’s newly dedicated team, based in East Kilbride will be focused on utilising local knowledge and making recommendations based on trusted collaborations.
Demand for high performance materials and methods has been growing in Scotland and this has opened opportunities for Colas to deliver specialist contracting capabilities.
With the economic future of Scotland uncertain in the run up to the Scottish referendum on 18 September – contractors like Colas already know the value of retaining investment in the region and focus will be to maintain any current infrastructure vital to future growth.
Colas associate director Sommerville Wright (pictured) said: “Scotland is a very important market for us. Up to now, the work of Colas’ Scottish contracting team has mainly focused on the application of Colas’ surfacing materials, but the plan is to extend the company’s other specialist services such as joint sealing, ironwork and traffic management with the aim of being the ‘specialist provider’ for Scotland.
“We recognise that one size does not fit all, and that Scotland and our Scottish customers have specific needs, preferences and ways of working. Our contracting business in Scotland is being built on close long-term relationships with our clients. The depot in East Kilbride is strategically placed and from there, we can cover most places in Scotland with our mobile crew.”
To support the launch, Colas sponsored this year’s IAT (Institute of Asphalt Technology) National Conference at St Andrews which is also the very first time the conference has been hosted in Scotland.
The newly dedicated unit is now ready for future projects in the region and will work closely with Scottish local authorities. The team is self-governing, and its operatives are fully equipped with the skillset needed for setting out and maintaining traffic management appropriate to specific projects or sites.
