Police in Western Australia have confirmed they are trialling a new speed monitoring device, with reports dozens of drivers were caught out on Great Eastern Highway.
The West Australian newspaper reports that the “odd-looking device” was first reported to Radio 6PR’s Breakfast show by a caller who suggested speeding drivers on Great Eastern Highway were being stung by a “machine hidden inside a box.”
It says photographs subsequently emerged of the unusual-looking device, as WA Police confirmed the new technology being experimented with, and quotes a statement as saying, “WA Police Force can confirm it is trialling a new speed monitoring device. This is part of ongoing efforts to find new and innovative ways to enforce laws that enhance road safety for all users.”
More details are yet to be forthcoming.
