Event aims to bridge the gap between strategic and local roads

An event that aims to bridge the gap between national and local roads will take place at the London Transport Museum on 23 June.

The one-day conference entitled ‘Highways Delivery: Integrating national and local roads’ is being put on by the Road Safety Markings Association (RSMA) under its National Highway Academy banner, and is part of a series of events on ‘Making the Network Work’.

The event will look at whether or not the gap between a funded, secure and ambitious national road network for England – and a potholed, cash-strapped patchwork of local-authority maintained roads – can be bridged.

The state of the nation’s roads – performance to date; current economic pressures; and trends for the future will all be discussed.

The event is being chaired by Mike D'Alton. He said: “This is a rare opportunity to listen to and question a truly impressive lineup of speakers. The conference has a clear focus on addressing the concerns of those leading highway strategy in England. I would encourage those who wish to understand how our network can function in the future to attend.”
