Philip Hoare takes Atkins' top highways job

19/04/2011 | HIGHWAYS REPORTERS

Consultant Atkins has had a management reshuffle which will see a new man at the helm of the UK highways business.

Philip Hoare (pictured) has been promoted to lead the UK Highways & Transportation (H&T) operation after a successful four years as managing director of the Highway Services division.

Hoare has been heavily involved in winning new work for Atkins, including the completion of significant long term deals with Oxfordshire, Somerset and Gloucestershire county councils to oversee works including highways maintenance, design and construction.

He was also appointed chairman of the Highways Term Maintenance Association (HTMA) last week, telling the organisation’s AGM that he would work to reinforce the message that reliable and safe roads were paramount to the social and economic needs of the nation.

Neil Thomas, who previously led H&T, moves into the role of managing director of Atkins’ UK Water & Environment business. .

Thomas oversaw H&T’s successful bid as part of the Connect Plus consortium which won the £6.2 billion contract to provide additional capacity and maintain the M25 motorway for the Highways Agency.
