VolkerHighways wins £40m Hackney maintenance job

VolkerHighways has won the four year Streetscene Contract for the London Borough of Hackney for the second term in a row.

The £40m plus contract was awarded in three separate lots; civils, street lighting, and road surfacing.

Work includes footway and cycleway renewal and maintenance, winter maintenance, gully clearance and maintenance, road surfacing and street lighting as well as 24/7 emergency response.

Mark Mascar, project manager for the Hackney contract, said: "Our focus in Hackney is to continue to deliver high quality services to the local community and our client, whilst developing new technology and ways of working to reduce both cost and CO² emissions.

"These contracts can only be successful through the partnership and collaboration of the team with the client, the supply chain and the local community.

"We are making a number of changes to the way we work in our next term these include a new office which will locate ourselves and a key supplier in the same building in the heart of the borough and the introduction of a new Work Order Management system using bespoke handheld technology."
