The New Year's Honours this year celebrated some of the top names in the sector including key figures at the Department for Transport (DfT) and Transport for London (TfL).
Tricia Hayes, director general for roads, devolution and motoring at the DfT, was made a Companion of the Order of the Bath.
Ms Hayes (pictured) took over the job in 2016 and was tasked with a new, specific devolution brief. She is honoured after overseeing the creation of sub-national transport bodies, which now cover most of the country and provide a new foundation for regional strategies.
A very personable character, she often speaks at industry events and has brought a down to earth, open approach to her work with local officers and professional bodies.
She once told Transport Network that one of the benefits of forming an STB is it 'keeps government honest', allowing local government in a region to hold Whitehall to account on its local transport plans.
Officers of the Order of the British Empire (OBE)
Several transport professionals were made Officers of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).
These include Stephen Fidler - deputy director, road investment strategy client at the DfT - who before moving into the roads was a key architect of the Bus Services Act.
TfL's long serving managing director for surface transport, Leon Daniels, was also made an OBE as was Joan Aitken, traffic commissioner for Scotland.
William Bryden, head of scenes of crime at the British Transport Police was made an OBE along with Catherine De Marco, deputy director for infrastructure skills and efficiency at the DfT.
Away from transport authorities and governance, the director of the London Transport Museum, Samuel Mullins, and Lesley Young, chief driving examiner at the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency, were also made OBEs.
Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE)
Those being honoured with an MBE included Richard Bristow for services to transport in London, and to the community in Hertfordshire, and Richard Gill, lately a police officer with the British Transport Police.
David Pike, head of domestic land transport security, land transport security division at the DfT was also made an MBE as was Susan Rogers, a manager for Mobility Centres of England.
Medallist of the Order of the British Empire
Those made a medallist of the Order of the British Empire included Lewis Brown, police community support officer for the British Transport Police and Alan Johnson, programme manager at TfL, for services to transport and the community in London.
Elina Kamellard, who works on cycling and walking policy at the DfT, was also made a medallist of the order.
Gerard Leggett, marine surveyor and operations manager at the DfT, was honoured as a medallist for services to the safety and welfare of seafarers and Jon Morrey police community support officer at the British Transport Police was awarded the honour for services to Policing
Mark Renshaw, police constable at the British Transport Police, received the honour for services to Policing, as did Alan Smith, special sergeant, British Transport Police. Judith Tracey - information officer, road safety standards at the DfT - was also made a medallist for services to transport.
